Von Kochar is a filmmaker, writer, and director whose work explores the intersection of psychology, society, mythology, and esoteric themes. His films blend storytelling with philosophy, delving into the nature of reality, memory, and human perception.
Kochar’s narratives often blur the boundaries between past and present, waking life and the subconscious, creating cinematic experiences that invite deeper reflection. Fascinated by the influence of ancient myths, archetypal patterns, and spiritual symbolism, he crafts films that challenge conventional storytelling while remaining visually and emotionally immersive.
Kochar’s films have been recognized at international film festivals for their unique approach to narrative and experimental storytelling. They were dubbed into French, Spanish and Hindu and released over 50 countries. Von continues to develop projects that push the boundaries of cinema, blending the seen and unseen in ways that engage both the intellect and the imagination.
Von studied at Yerevan State Insititute of Theatre and Cinema and philosophy at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas "Angelicum" in Rome. He was awarded Best Feature Film Director at the 2021 Culver City Film Festival and Best Documentary Director at the 2023 Chambal Film Festival in India.
His films have won top honors at festivals in the US, Italy, Mexico, Argentina, and the UK.
Kochar is also a recipient of the LA Weekly Award, a finalist in the Writers Guild of America/Paul Varnum Screenwriting Contest, and a William Simon Scholarship recipient in philosophy. He is a fellow of the Moving Picture Institute and a voting member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Von has written extensively on metaphysics, the American Civil War, martial arts and work ethics. In addition to his filmmaking, he has staged sold-out large-scale theater productions and multimedia projects. He is the inventor of Projection Play, a groundbreaking theatrical form in which at least one main character interacts solely through projected images, redefining the boundaries between live performance and visual storytelling.
Von is the grandson of legendary Armenian-French artist Yervand Kochar and carries forward his legacy of Dimensionalism in his own work, blending visual and narrative storytelling in innovative ways.
